Google at ASTE
I am presenting a pre-con workshop and some sessions at ASTE in Alaska. I am over preparing based on what happened at ITSC with the internet going down. Lynn Lary has allowed me to work with her handouts for my workshop besides my webpage. Can you believe it? Jennifer is providing handouts, geez!
The workshops went well. I also hid some geocaches for a contest they are having. The conference itself, the attendance seems to continue to dwindle. I wonder if it is worth the expense to come up here? I guess if we want to reach Alaska, this is one way.

ITSC Success
![]() | Feel free to review the feedback given for ITSC 2007. | ![]() |
I would say overall my favorite quote comes from Allan Dunn (OSD):
"I wanted to let you know that I appreciated the efforts you and your
team did to put on this conference.
I have attended many conferences, chaired an NCCE conference years ago, I have seen many conference efforts and this one, I feel, was a big step I can only fault you on one thing: Not requiring me to attend the first PS: We had about 10 people from Oregon City - it will be interesting to Again, thank you."
helped organize local conferences in the metro area, been a speaker at
NECC, NCCE and other conferences, etc. OK - so what?
above these. The conference was focused, embraced technology in
innovative ways, the presenters were excellent models for teaching (my
pet peeve for presenters), topics were relevant, the keynote (David P.)
was delightful, etc.
5-6!
see what influence the conference had on our planning for the future.
Oh, one personal story. The internet from Qwest went down on Tuesday. I had such stellar presenters that 2 of the 3 where able to carry the workshop without the internet, and their sessions were all online. As participants were leaving Lynn Lary's Everything Google workshop I heard, "I thought I knew a lot about Google, but I learned so much, and we didn't even have connectivity!"

Classrooms of Distinction
I was encouraged to attend Classrooms of Distinction, right before ITSC. It looked cool, my favorite session was the math session. Besides the internet at the convention center being HORRIBLE, I was disappointed... if you removed all the technology the classrooms would have looked the same as a paper pencil worksheet classroom, no interaction, same old strategies. Maybe my thinking has to evolve here but why spend the money if we are going to do it the same ole way? Besides the math session the presenters where not that engaging, but yes we know I have high standards...NEXT...

ITSC
I am not writing much in the next few weeks, due to ITSC overload. Things are going along smoothly. Concerned about enough wireless access points, but working diligently on that with Jeff from the Sheraton.

More REALly
The REAL project has been so much work. Much more than I thought. We met our deliverable a month early after a lot of tech difficulties and meetings. I had a phone meeting today to review what we have accomplished to date.
Another highlight... I was asked to sit on the IT Task Force Committee for ODE. Our goal is taking the new requirements from the feds about showing technology proficiency, and creating a plan of what that would look like for Oregon. A lot of smart people on this committee the conversations have been valuable.
Lastly, I was asked by COSA to present at the OASE/OACOA Winter Conference. I presented on web 2.0 tools, but incorporated Carla Wade and the ODE information, REAL to meet my deliverable and OVSD had a component. As always I was disappointed when I saw one of the keynotes who had EXCELLENT content displayed from an overhead projector hundreds of feet a way from where I sat, luckily I was given a fifty page handout to follow along... Yea you fill in the blanks.
