Consulting
Today was the first official consulting job for OETC. I did a half day training for North Clackamas on Moodle. They have a moodle account through OETC and were wanting to use it for their literacy coaches. It was a good training.
Afterwards, I met with Pulsemedia, the high school group who is creating video for the Oregon Cadre. WE discussed how we will put together the videos online.
I had an opportunity to meet with the Director of Curriculum of Clackamas ESD about their EdTech Grant. I would like to be able to fund it but wanted to be confident of their plan and roll out.

Qwest Grants
Most of this week was spent spending time with Darren in understanding the projects he is to undertake such as the Qwest grants, the regional edtech grants and the OVSD project.
We spent one full day with Carla Wade, ODE and Bob Gravely, Qwest on scoring the Qwest grants. We will be able to award five grants wit the first round of Qwest monies. If ODE comes through with the matching funds we will be able to award another six grants. We are working dilegently with Steve Nelson on this task. Darren will be traveling around the state to award the monies. So far we have awarded:
- Kim Hernandez, Centennial Elementary, Springfield Public Schools
- Heidi Paullus, Sunridge Middle School, Pendleton School District
- Ginny Hoke, Thurston High School, Springfield Public Schools
- Tim Chase, Bend LaPine Middle School, Bend LaPine School District
- Morgan Cottle & Mark Sherbow , Ashland School District

ITSC 2008
We opened registration for ITSC to the Montana and Oregon Cadre's today. They have one week advanced notice on signing up their teams for ITSC. We encountered lots of little glitches and hand holding that we needed to do to met the needs of our conference registrants.

Grants
Darren and I have been collaborating on the roll out of the Qwest Teacher Grants
and the Oregon EdTech Regional Cadre Mini-Grants.
Applications are due Monday, the 22nd and have already started arriving. The biggest concern I have is not enough money to fund such great projects. I cannot tell you how many incredible regional cadre stories have been coming in via email. What a wonderful success!!

OVSD Overview
We spent much of the week working on the OVSD project. We met with Steve Nelson of ODE and Greg the programmer for OVSD. We gave recommendations and insight into how to reformat the website to attract users and make training easier.
We also discussed the matching funds of ODE with the Qwest teacher grants.

Personal IT Trainer
I spent half a day this week doing some one on one instructional technology training with one of the cadre leaders. It was a great opportunity for her to learn and time for me to reflect on where teachers are at, and how to provide the best staff development for them, possible.

Roll Out
the last two weeks have found me nose to the screen preparing to roll out registration for ITSC. This is the best program yet, a little behind, but confident in the quality and that we will FILL up once again. You have to see the amazing program we have this year.
In addition our new hire, Darren Hudgins started work. I fear I have overwhelmed him with projects and a blank canvas. The most intense of all work is the design, management and provision of professional development for OVSD. We have had some great meetings and this project is beginning to take shape from nothing. We have been given a voice to offer feedback to make the content, resources and tools more user friendly.
Registration will open for the cadres on October 22nd and for the general public on October 29th.

Wrap Up
This week I spent time wrapping up the Montana and Oregon Cadre Fall Trainings by sending out the evaluation, thank you cards and letters to the participants bosses telling them of the incredible opportunity the have provided for. I have received numerous emails of appreciation on how this was not only the best cadre ever, but how it has changed thinking and trainings happening around the state. here is just one inspiring email.
Will Greenleaf, Canby School District. I really enjoyed the conference.
In fact, I have started a new approach in my teaching. I'm referring to it to my colleagues as a shift in my pedagogical paradigm in approaching technology.
The last two days I have spoken to every one of my classes about switching from teaching specific skill sets and focusing on developing an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and learning how to learn new technologies. That the students consider their message, consider their audience, reflect on what is the best medium to convey that message, and then learn the tools that will make it happen.
I have used the example of cell phones and text messages. They were given tolls and had the desire to send a message. They figured out how to use the technology on their own.
I have also been speaking about the Renaissance and that I believe we are at the cross roads of a new Renaissance. The question then becomes, what would Leonardo DaVinci be asking, attempting, discovering with the tools that surround us today?
The biggest inspiration came from the video "The Machine is Us" which I have been showing tit to all of my kiddos.
Thank you for your work and the invitation which brought me to that conference.
