ITSC 2008
We opened registration for ITSC to the Montana and Oregon Cadre's today. They have one week advanced notice on signing up their teams for ITSC. We encountered lots of little glitches and hand holding that we needed to do to met the needs of our conference registrants.

Roll Out
the last two weeks have found me nose to the screen preparing to roll out registration for ITSC. This is the best program yet, a little behind, but confident in the quality and that we will FILL up once again. You have to see the amazing program we have this year.
In addition our new hire, Darren Hudgins started work. I fear I have overwhelmed him with projects and a blank canvas. The most intense of all work is the design, management and provision of professional development for OVSD. We have had some great meetings and this project is beginning to take shape from nothing. We have been given a voice to offer feedback to make the content, resources and tools more user friendly.
Registration will open for the cadres on October 22nd and for the general public on October 29th.

To Move or Not To Move
Registration reached capacity this year at 450 participants. The rooms were crowded and somewhat uncomfortable. I need to decide if I should move ITSC to a new location for 2008. After much research to find locations that have the bandwidth I have decided to stay at the Sheraton and add two workshops kitty corner at the Embassy Suites. This way we may be able to get up to 550 participants leaving us a boutique conference.
I will again review this in 2008 to see if any locations can handle our capacity and bandwidth. We will make a lot more changes in how we run the event next year, like having tickets for each workshop. Our notes for participant feedback in 2007 and our plans can be found on this google doc. Thanks to Kim for helping me think through this.

ITSC Success
![]() | Feel free to review the feedback given for ITSC 2007. | ![]() |
I would say overall my favorite quote comes from Allan Dunn (OSD):
"I wanted to let you know that I appreciated the efforts you and your
team did to put on this conference.
I have attended many conferences, chaired an NCCE conference years ago, I have seen many conference efforts and this one, I feel, was a big step I can only fault you on one thing: Not requiring me to attend the first PS: We had about 10 people from Oregon City - it will be interesting to Again, thank you."
helped organize local conferences in the metro area, been a speaker at
NECC, NCCE and other conferences, etc. OK - so what?
above these. The conference was focused, embraced technology in
innovative ways, the presenters were excellent models for teaching (my
pet peeve for presenters), topics were relevant, the keynote (David P.)
was delightful, etc.
5-6!
see what influence the conference had on our planning for the future.
Oh, one personal story. The internet from Qwest went down on Tuesday. I had such stellar presenters that 2 of the 3 where able to carry the workshop without the internet, and their sessions were all online. As participants were leaving Lynn Lary's Everything Google workshop I heard, "I thought I knew a lot about Google, but I learned so much, and we didn't even have connectivity!"

ITSC
I am not writing much in the next few weeks, due to ITSC overload. Things are going along smoothly. Concerned about enough wireless access points, but working diligently on that with Jeff from the Sheraton.

ITSC Website
One of the downsides is not having enough IT help at OETC. I feel so bad that Jake is overwhelmed with projects and so don't want to bother him. So I traded services this week and had a colleague help me with the ITSC blog/website, as it had some awful errors and glitches I could not fix on my own.
ITSC Keynoter David Pogue on 60 Minutes Sunday? Here is a great video on how technology is changing our lives and the Geek Squad that we need to help manage it all. Or maybe you would rather read the article instead of watch the video. |

Too Many People
OK, there is no way without lots of words to describe the details that go into planning a conference. So I won't bore you with all that I am doing right now to be prepared for ITSC, however it is important to note that we are filling up, and I will need to cap registration, but I wish I could keep taking more in.

ITSC Lunch
I had an OETC planning luncheon to work on ideas for our 2007 ITSC. I also worked with Jake to make the website registration process more user-friendly.
